Why do we care about Sustainability
I was raised with a deep appreciation for conservation and love for the environment. I majored in Sustainability Studies in college and was thrilled when I realized I could apply what I learned in school to trying to change the wedding industry's wasteful standards from the inside out.
Travels sometimes but offsets all emissions.
Other Sustainable Practices
I track my carbon footprint throughout the year to offset my whole business! And I helped co-found a sustainability organization for wedding professionals in the PNW called Emerald Hour. I recommend other sustainable vendors to my clients, support local businesses whenever I can, avoid buying anything I don't absolutely need, use rechargeable batteries, and practice responsible energy consumption when charging my gear.
I take great care to Leave No Trace and ensure my couples and their guests follow the principles, as well! I don't geotag any specific locations when posting on social media, encourage clients to carpool, and make it clear to other visitors that they don't need to step off-trail to avoid our photos– we'll just wait patiently for them to walk past.
Imperfectly Sustainable
Marla Manes Photography says: "I do most of my business shopping online! I shop at my local camera store whenever I can, but they don't always have what I need in stock when I need it. Film, travel bags, and accessories typically come from my local community whereas camera bodies and lenses are typically shipped in from elsewhere in the US."
